Using Repositories

Data repositories store scientific data sets in efficient and effective ways according to their purpose. Many are used just to backup key data resources created or accumulated in the course of doing science for one or a group of scientists. Other repositories are developed with full information science support in order to make them useful to a much larger community. Those repositories are often supported by thoughtful metadata recording of the characteristics and merits of each resource that has been committed to the repository.
