Rob continued a Powerpoint presentation after putting students in groups as to whether they prefer Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, or Apple Numbers as a spreadsheet tool.
Rob showed students how to access and download data from the week's online repositories being explored.
Students worked in groups to each create a graph that compared an air temperature data set found for Westerly, RI (USWS) with an air temperature data set found for Saundertown, RI (Weather Underground):
Students worked in groups to each create a graph that compared an air wind data set found for Westerly, RI (USGS) with a wind data set found for North Kingstown, RI (NOAA):
Students were then asked to do a comparison of physical data variables of their own choosing (precipitation verses air pressure in the USGS data set, for example):
Rob facilitated a discussion regarding the accuracy ("is it correct?") and usefulness ("which one is better") of competing data set sources since the data types were likely to be useful for use in continued analysis of student kayak field trip data sets.
Students were asked to finish their graph work as homework.
